KING Colonel John P. King (U.S. Army, retired) died peacefully on Wednesday, October 13, in La Place, Louisiana. Preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Mildred Powell King, he graduated from Tifton High School in 1946 and later from North Georgia College. He made the Army his career, serving in both Korea and Vietnam and once retired, began a second career as a safety engineer for numerous production plants and construction companies. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved to dance and sing and entertain his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After his second retirement, he met Nancy Bridgeman and they enjoyed their friends and family and their travels together. Survived by his wife, Nancy Bridgeman King, children Alison King Unsworth and her husband Tim Unsworth, Elizabeth and Michael Ashworth, Kathryn Ann King and Mary C. King and her husband, Jon Hobus, and the King daughters' mother Kathryn, Carol Bridgeman Craig and husband Glen "Spud" Craig, John C. Bridgeman and his wife Sydney Heath Bridgeman, Diane Bridgeman Sabrio and her husband Stanley Sabrio. Also survived by his grandchildren, Joe and Tom Unsworth, Nikki, Heather, Logan and Jon Hobus, Wayne and Carmel Bridgeman, T John, Megan and Jessi Bridgeman, Tyler and Jennifer Sabrio, and Caitlyn Sabrio, and great-grandchildren Aoife and Grace Bridgeman and Bailey Sabrio. Friends and family are invited to arrive on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with the memorial service beginning at 11:00 at the Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, 2806 Airline Highway in La Place, Louisiana.
